Perhaps even more importantly, 99.7% of all people believe that a nice smile is a social asset.
Given these numbers, it’s pretty hard to deny the importance of nice teeth.
But unfortunately most of us weren’t born with perfect teeth. Thankfully, there are a number of options available to men who need to straighten or whiten their teeth.
Well, here's something you might want to know...
They don’t work!
In fact, I recently heard of a mouthwash company that was sued (and lost) on the basis of false advertising because they claimed their product had tooth whitening properties (and it didn't).
You see, there are essentially two ways in which your teeth can become yellow. The first is through surface stains, which tend to come from your most recent meal or cup of coffee.
The second type of tooth stain, and the one that causes far more problems, is a deeper discoloration of the tooth enamel. This can be caused by aging, smoking, certain medications, and continued exposure to certain foods and drinks.
Toothpastes, mouth washes, chewing gum, and most other over-the-counter products that claim to whiten your teeth only remove basic surface stains.
Stop paying $5 for a tube of toothpaste just because it says it will whiten your teeth! All toothpastes, mouthwashes, and other products will remove surface stains equally well. Those fancy looks ones that cost twice as much because they claim to "whiten your teeth" are just a waste of money.
If you want to address the root of the problem, you need to use a product with real tooth whitening properties.
The traditional way to whiten your teeth is to go to your dentist and pay $500 (more more). Most dentists use either a high concentration peroxide bleach or a laser whitening device.
Unless you're rich... forget it. It’s not worth the money when there are other products on the market that cost 1/10th of what a dentist will charge you.
One of the latest trends has been in the use of whitening strips or trays, such as Crest White Strips. If you’re not familiar with these products, they’re basically little plastic strips with gel on them that you fix to your teeth.
Most of these products require you to wear them for 30-45 minutes a day for five to seven consecutive days. It's a pain in the ass, but the good news is that they work.
Yes, these whitening trays and strips actually live up to the hype. They can effectively whiten your teeth by several shades in a matter of days.
These types of whitening products generally cost between $25 and $50 (20-45€).
But if you’re like me, then the thought of taking the time every day to sit around wearing these things probably makes you cringe. Half the time they end up falling off anyway.
There is a middle-of-the-road solution that actually works just as well but is less of a pain in the ass.
The latest whitening products are "paint-on" solutions. Essentially, you get a tiny little brush that you use to paint on a peroxide solution that bleaches your teeth overnight.
Yes, they're a bit more expensive ($60-100 or about 60-95€) but they're a lot less intrusive.
Use them a couple of times, and your teeth will be noticeably whiter for another six months or so.
And since you now know that 96% of all women think a nice smile is a turn-on... that’s probably one of the most worthwhile purchases you’ll ever make!
